Matt Berka is an English teacher and instructional coach at Southwest Christian High School in Chaska, Minnesota. These positions allow Matt to stay teaching in the disciplines that he loves and also working alongside colleagues to explore and implement effective pedagogical practices. Through his work within the Teaching for Transformation framework in the English classroom, Matt is interested in equipping his students to think deeply and critically about words and ideas. He believes that the traditional work of the English classroom—reading, writing, thinking, and speaking—are powerful tools to help students more clearly see and follow Jesus Christ, engage the world in which they live, and pursue the Kingdom of God. Aside from teaching, Matt enjoys spending time with his family and good friends, listening to The Beatles, and playing a game or sport of nearly any kind.
